This outstanding Tonala burnished clay pottery piece was crafted in Tonala, Mexico by ceramics master Luis Cortez, one of the most renowned and awarded Mexican Folk artists. The pot displays one of the most popular subjects in Mexican Folk art: The sun & the moon, each of them beautifully painted on each side of the piece.
Mr. Cortés is a respected artist in Tonala and his pieces valued amongst collectors and Mexican Folk Art connoisseurs. He has won many awards and prizes.
Tonalá is a small city outside of Guadalajara in the Mexican state of Jalisco, where potters combine ancient and modern techniques to create a regional tradition that is taught from one generation to the next since pre-Columbian times.
