Mexican Miniature Natural Clay Cart Pottery from Metepec Mexico

This exquisite miniature Mexican pottery piece was hand crafted in Metepec. A  town located in central Mexico, worldwide known for the high quality of it´s pottery. 

 The fine clay miniature cart is composed of two pieces, one with the two wheel cart lovely decorated with floral motifs and an image of StJoseph. The second  part of the cart consists of a pair of ox with a graceful expression carrying an image of our lady virgin of Guadalupe.

depicts a man riding a cart full of fruits and a woman sitting holding a watermelon in her hands as well as some baskets hanging at the top. Some peasants still sell their fruits like this at small towns and remote areas of Mexico.

 Making this cart took many days of dedication from picking up and sifting the clay to the molding of the piece.

 Mastering this craft is a process that takes years and is transmitted from one generation to the next. Usually the artists learn the technique as kids while playing with clay in their family workshops.
