This gold outlined lacquered dish is an authentic piece of fine Mexican Folk Art crafted in Pátzcuaro, Michoacán, Mexico. It is made of wood and exquisitely decorated with birds & flowers with oil painting & 23.5karat gold! The contour is superb and the decoration is mind blowing.
Lacquerware has been produced in México since pre columbian times and competes with the lacquer produced in Asia in terms of quality and beauty. Some pieces are decorated with colored oil paintings and gold and some are decorated with bronze instead of gold. This dish is completely decorated with 23.5 Karat gold and oil paintings. To create this piece the background was painted in black, then the 23.5k Gold fixed using with a mordant and finally the color was added using oil painting on a fine brush. The back of the dish is painted in a lacquered dark red tone.
