ABOUT THIS GOLD OUTLINED LACQUERWARE GOURD
This gold outlined lacquered gourd is one of the finest manifestations of Mexican Folk Art. It was crafted by the multi awarded Mario Agustín Gaspar, one of the Great Masters of Mexican Folk Art and one of the best gold lacquerware artists in Mexico.
Some pieces are decorated with colored oil paintings and gold and some are decorated with bronze instead of gold. This dish is completely decorated with 23.5 Karat gold using a beautiful geometric pattern over a black background. The artist's choice was to leave the natural color of the gourd on the lid to add a more subtle contrast with the gold. Only a master of this technique could achieve such splendid piece of art.
Lacquerware has been produced in México since pre columbian times and is as good as the one produced in Asia in terms of quality and beauty.
