This outstanding miniature tree of life was hand crafted in Metepec. A town located in central Mexico, worldwide known for the high quality of it´s pottery.
It beautifully displays some of the most traditional Mexican dances such as the Papantla voladores, the deer and the Jaguar dance. Please note that one of the dancers at the center right is missing an arm. This is an imperfection due to the hand made making of the piece. It is sold as is.
The whole tree of life is surrounded with flowers and is beautifully painted in a dominant reddish brown palette. You may also see the sun and the moon at the top of it. The latter are usually present in the tree of life as symbols of the masculine, the feminine and the dual nature of existence. An important reminiscence of the rich pre hispanic culture; where all the pottery tradition begun.
Making each tree of life takes many days of dedication from picking up and sifting the clay, molding the piece to placing it in the oven and finally arriving to the utmost delicate process of painting.
Mastering this craft is a process that takes years and is transmitted from one generation to the next.
