ABOUT THIS HUICHOL BEADED MASK

This beaded mask was crafted by Huichol or Wirrarika indigenous people from Mexico. They learn their craft as children from their elder and they represent sacred figures such as the ones in this mask: The peyote, the deer and the scorpion can be clearly appreciated. The mask is made of wood, then they cover it with bees wax and finally, they attach bead by bead with no previous design, only their own creativity and talent guides them. Huichol art has a special place in Mexico's Folk art and traditions.
