This beautifully carved pegasus alebrije was crafted and hand painted in San Martín Tilcajete, Oaxaca. It was carved at the renowned roque workshop using a beautiful fucsia, ping & black palette.
The pattern used to decorate the piece is inspired in ancient Zapotec symbols. The pegasus is signed at the bottom.
The carving is made of Copal wood, a tree considered as sacred by the Zapotec indigenous people. It grows in the nearby mountains of San Martín. Reforestation projects are held by the community in order to preserve this important source of creation.
