Oaxacan Red Etched Gourd Painting w Parrot, Rabbit, Deer & Birds
ABOUT THIS OAXACAN ETCHED GOURD
This Mexican etched gourd was crafted in Pinotepa de Don Luis, Oaxaca It is one of the few made in red, which creates a beautiful contrast with the beige of the natural gourd. The subject is nature. The main figure is a couple of parrots standing on a branch. The one on the left has a fruit in one hand and has a mysterious look. The other one, at the right has a friendly expression, it's almost as if it were smiling.
A deer with an elegant posture can also be appreciated at the bottom of the gourd with two birds flying close to it, one of them carrying a branch in its mouth. There are three more birds, each of them chasing a fruit from the branch. At the bottom of the piece is also a rabbit it's looking back, towards the twisted base of the plant that holds the parrots. A very well accomplished piece full of movement from Pinotepa de Don Luis, Oaxaca.
