Mexican Rooster Clay Figure by Metepec Pottery Master Alfonso Soteno
ABOUT THIS METEPEC POTTERY PIECE
This colorful rooster clay figure was crafted by a legend of Mexican Folk Art: Alfonso Soteno, awarded with multiple national and international pottery prizes.
The piece is inspired in traditional clay figures that were popular in Metepec in the midst of XXth century. After the comercial success of the tree of life, these figures became scarce. Mr. Soteno is one of the few that keeps making them and dying them with natural pigments called anilines, which add this special vividness to the color. It is signed by the artist.
