ABOUT THIS BACK STRAP LOOMED INDIGENOUS TEXTILE

This rebozo (shawl) is a Jewel of Mexican Indigenous Textile Art!  It was all dyed with natural pigments. The brown tones are from dandelion and the beige from arnica. All this belongs to a centennial knowledge of Mexico's original indigenous peoples.

The fabric was made using the pre columbian back strap loom technique and the  feathers are all hand knotted. A stripe of synthetic silk was added to the borders. This creates an elegant sheen effect.

An authentic Haute Couture ethnic piece of art! made by Purépecha indigenous people from Michoacán, México.

The piece can be used not only as a garment but also as a home decor accent such as a table runner or bedspread.

Making each shawl takes years of knowledge and weeks of dedication. With your shopping you support the work of indigenous families, with whom we work directly on a fair trade basis.
