Mexican Miniature Clay Pottery from Metepec Mexico Cart Fruit Sellers

This supberb miniature Mexican pottery piece was hand crafted in Metepec. A  town located in central Mexico, worldwide known for the high quality of it´s pottery. 

 This fine clay piece depicts a man riding a cart full of fruits and a woman sitting holding a watermelon in her hands as well as some baskets hanging at the top. Some peasants still sell their fruits like this at small towns and remote areas of Mexico.

 The whole structure of the cart is surrounded with birds and flowers. The cart  is pulled by a donkey. Not even the reins are missing.

 Making this cart took many days of dedication from picking up and sifting the clay, molding the piece to placing it in the oven and finally arriving to the utmost delicate process of painting.

 Mastering this craft is a process that takes years and is transmitted from one generation to the next. Usually the artists learn the technique as kids while playing with clay in their family workshops.
