ABOUT THIS BACK STRAP LOOMED INDIGENOUS TEXTILE

This textile was back strap loomed by Purépecha Indigenous people from Michoacán, Mexico. The back strap loom is a pre hispanic technique for creating textiles and this piece is a fine sample of the outcome of such ancient and rudimentary tool.

The black and red color combination is striking and the little yellow dots on the fringe add a nice accent to the piece. The rebozo (shawl) is 100% cotton, except for the fringe which is rayon.

This piece is an authentic Haute Couture Mexican Indigenous Textile and can be used not only as a grament but also as a home decor accent such as a table runner or bedspread.

Making each shawl takes years of knowledge and weeks of dedication. With your shopping you support the work of indigenous families, with whom we work directly on a fair trade basis.
