ABOUT THIS BACK STRAP LOOMED MEXICAN TEXTILE

This amazing textile was made by Huave Indigenous People from San Mateo del Mar at the Coast of Oaxaca. It is 100% cotton and was crafted using the pre columbian back strap loom technique with brocade figures.

The textile displays some of the most traditional figures in Huave iconography such as  butterflies, a Man on a cart pulled by a donkey, birds, fish, and coyotes. It was crafted with a fine intuition and aesthetics. Each series of two icons is divided by a stripe of an intricate geometric pattern.

This piece is so beautiful that can be framed. It can also be used as a table runner or a home decor accent.

Creating a textile like this takes years of knowledge and weeks of dedication. With your shopping you support the work of indigenous families, with whom we work directly on a fair trade basis.
