This clay sculpture is a masterpiece of Mexican pottery crafted by Oaxacan Artist, Vilma Velasco Vasquez. Vilma is daughter of the famous and multi awarded Mexican folk Artist Enedina Vasquez. Both live in Atzompa, a town well known for the quality of its pottery with natural and glazed clay figures.
The piece depicts a nativity with The angel, Virgin Mary carrying baby Jesus on her lap & St. Joseph behind her in a peaceful protective pose. A sheep, the ox & the mule are also part of the piece as well as a tread of little angels. To achieve a balanced composition of so many elements in such a small piece & such amount of detail can only be achieved by a high skilled artist like Vilma.
