ABOUT THESE OAXACAN, ALEBRIJE STYLE EARRINGS
These drop shaped Mexican earrings were crafted in San Martín Tilcajete, Oaxaca. Inspired by traditional wood carvings also known as Alebrijes. The earrings are decorated by hand with ancient indigenous Zapotec butterfly symbols and flowers with an exquisite orange red palette.
The hooks are gold plated and the hearts are made of copal wood, the same wood used to make Oaxaca's famous wood carvings known as Tonas, Nahuales and Alebrijes.
Coco, the movie; did a thorough research and a beautiful representation of the Mexican tradition of Alebrijes. in the movie, Alebrijes are part of a tale in which Miguel crosses to the world of the dead with the help of a Dante, a Xoloiscuintli dog.
