Wool Bag Backstrap loomed Indigenous textile from Chiapas, Mexico
ABOUT THIS MEXICAN TEXTILE
This unique wool textile was loomed by Tzeltal indigenous woman from the state of Chiapas. The backstrap loom technique dates back to pre hispanic times. To create each piece the artisan straps one end of the loom to her waist and the other to a tree to create tension and using her hands and simple wood instruments they create these outstanding textiles. This piece in particular is a piece for collectors due to it´s delicate work and detail. it is 95% wool and 5% cotton.
