ABOUT THIS WAIST LOOMED TEXTILE

This Rebozo is a very special textile, it won a first prize award of the 2019 edition of one of the most important folk art contests in Mexico.Mexican shawls are Rebozos; one of the most important folk art indigenous textile traditions.

The shawl was crafted in a backstrap loom by indigenous women using wool and cotton creating a beautiful squared canvas with stars and geometric patterns in black, red and beige.

An Haute Couture Piece crafted by Purépecha Indigenous women from Angahuan, Mexico, a town in the state of Michoacan where women weave these amazing shawls using the pre hispanic back strap loom technique.

The rebozo can be used not only as a shawl or wrap, but also as a table runner or bed spread.

Making each shawl takes years of knowledge and days of dedication. With your shopping you support the work of indigenous families, with whom we work directly on a fair trade basis.
